Another season, another James Harden drama. Since asking out of Philly, things have been chaotic for both him and the 76ers. The Guard went to China and went as far as to call Daryl Morey a liar. Following this saga, Joel Embiid is also dropping cryptic hints, and the 76ers Franchise is in muddy waters. While it is difficult to discern who wronged whom, Harden’s actions have brought a lot of negative attention to both the NBA and the Philadelphia 76ers.
This can remind one of Kylian Mbappe’s wanting out of PSG in another high-profile drama.

In 2019, rumors started floating that Mbappe would leave PSG just after a couple of years as a regular player (not on loan). While he denied the rumors, the murmurs only got stronger. In 2020, he had given an ultimatum to PSG. But President Nasser Al Khelifi convinced him to stay.
Since then, the legendary striker has asked out of PSG almost every year, looking for a Real Madrid move, but the French club has somehow held on to him. However, the French phenom has caused insecurity and has muddied the waters for the Franchise which hasn’t lived up to its potential.
The uncertainty about their key player’s future may have affected their performances too. Recently, to add to the intrigue, the $180 million worth footballer revealed he is 100% going to remain with PSG. Thus, continues this murky partnership.
However, Harden has gone way past Mbappe by a long shot. Recently, he was in China calling the 76ers’ President of Operations a “liar”. Earlier, analysts and various sports journalists concluded he was calling him a liar because Morey had promised a Supermax contract last season, north of $50 million a year.
However, as per NBA insider Shams Charania, that is not the case. He reports that $165 million worth of basketball phenom called Philly’s President of Operations a “liar” because he didn’t trade him after the Guard opted in his $35.6 million dollar extension.

The former Rockets Guard’s trade demand is specific as per reports. He wants to go to the Clippers. Working a trade package after the draft and free agency is challenging. Things are in slow motion and that is why the Heat and the Trail Blazers are yet to engage in a trade involving Damian Lillard. If that is the case, then can the onus of not trading Harden fall just on Morey? What are the Clippers offering? Are they enthusiastic like the explosive scorer? Whatever may be the case, murmurs that Joel Embiid is going to leave are gaining traction.
Losing last season’s MVP and last season’s assists leader can be a decisive blow to the team that was building something special. The core of Harden, Maxey, Harris, and Embiid had a lot to offer. Soon, the team may give in rebuild mode. In that case, a trade package involving Clippers’ future first-round picks makes sense. But that will be another long hard grind if Embiid asks out.
