ESPN’s NBA broadcasts are in for a significant makeover as the network undergoes a major personnel change. In a surprising move last month, ESPN laid off some of its biggest stars in a single day. This shake-up included Jeff Van Gundy, Suzy Kolber, Max Kellerman, Keyshawn Johnson and Jalen Rose. According to ESPN, these tough decisions were made to cut costs and save tens of millions of dollars. Furthermore, the network clarified that there would be “no sacred cows” during the layoffs. In turn, the stir affected approximately 20 on-air personalities last month. In a recent turn of events, a 16-year-old ESPN veteran has been relieved of his services.

The former coach of Stephen Curry, Mark Jackson was unexpectedly let go by ESPN after serving as an NBA analyst for more than a decade. Jackson’s 16-year tenure with ESPN had two distinct periods: from 2006 to 2011 and then again from 2014 until recently. His partnership with Jeff Van Gundy and Mike Breen is known for having formed a well-known broadcasting trio for numerous NBA games. Learning about the company’s decision to let him go drew many of Jackson’s emotions at the time.

One could only assume Jackson was baffled after learning about the decision. Although saddened by the news, Jackson took the time to express gratitude to the company for allowing him to be a part of the organization. “This morning, unexpectedly, I was informed that my services were no longer needed at ESPN,” his post began.

“Although shocked and dismayed with the suddenness of it all, I would like to thank ESPN and all the staff of the NBA ESPN crew for allowing me to be a part of the organization for the past 15+ years.,” Jackson continued. He also thanked NBA fans and his amazing crew and wished for the best future for new ESPN professionals.

Apart from being a former New York Knicks player and an analyst for the NBA, Jackson has also acted as the head of the Golden State Warriors. One potential avenue for Mark can be returning to TV with a different network. On the other hand, he can make a return to coaching.
