While attending the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame event, one fan made a ‘special’ request about his career and future. Tatum rejected him and proceeded to do something that won the hearts of his fans.

Tatum was entering the Hall of Fame ceremony when one Miami Heat fan actively tried to recruit him. She yelled, “Come to the Heat,” to which he shook his head and replied, “Nah”. After immediately shutting him down, he went on to meet and greet the Boston Celtics fan, who was screaming, “Go Celtics!”.

In the Eastern Conference in the last two years, the Celtics and the Heat have become arch-rivals. They faced each other in both of the last two conference finals, with each of them winning one. Jimmy Butler‘s Miami Heat has the upper hand after winning the last one, but on paper, they are at par.

Thus, Tatum is reluctant to leave and join one of Boston’s biggest competitors. He reportedly signed an extension in 2020, keeping him at the Celtics till 2026. The Celtics fans love him, and that’s why his gestures in the ceremony were received well by them. But that was not the case with others.

How did the NBA fans respond to it?

Despite Tatum bluntly rejecting the Heat fan’s request, the Celtics fans disliked him for making a trade request. One Celtics fan questioned the ethics of the Heat fanbase.

The other Celtics supporters raised their voices against the Heat franchise.

Some fans wanted to convey that the Heat supporters must have been feeling low due to the rejection.

The opinions quickly split into two as many Heatles joined forces to counter Tatum’s response. One fan indicated that Jayson rejected the ‘special’ request because the Heat supporter told him his Game 7 stats.

Another said that Butler was massively superior to Tatum, so the Celtics-Heat was not a rivalry.

One more expressed the same thoughts, stating that Jayson Tatum could not stand against the Miami Heat.
