The twin pillars of growth and change ensure success in any field of work, as without them, things fall to a slow death. As the NBA aims to base its legacy on those, its latest actions have cracked down on its superstars such as Kawhi Leonard, and Anthony Davis, amongst others. Recently, though, the league’s underlying $75,000,000,000 motive has come to the forefront.

The NBA set its eyes on a big target and they require the entire league to be on the same page to achieve it. To make that happen, they have taken measures against its superstars first.

The league has entered a stage in its journey where it can look for multi-billion dollar deals to capture a bigger share of the sports market. They are planning to do precisely that as a bidding war might open soon. The highest bidder would control Adam Silver’s NBA rights in the upcoming decade and beyond, and the potential upside to this is huge.

The league could seek somewhere in the region of $50-75 billion for that, with Amazon Prime Video already showing interest. Currently, the NBA earns around $2.6 billion annually for its rights from the two partners. So, the long-term perks of the future deal would be immense, but the ongoing structure raises a few problems. The majority of the teams often bench their talismanic figures in the name of load management, which affects the viewership. Fortunately, the interests of the broadcasting partners and the supporters align here as they both want to see the superstars on the court. That’s why the NBA has introduced a new rule, understanding the market demands.

How would it affect the likes of Kawhi Leonard and Anthony Davis?

The injury history of these superstars often put them under bad limelight. Leonard is yet to play over 60 games in a regular season since 2016/17. Davis falls under the same category as he has played even less than 50 games a season twice in his last three campaigns.

Thus, the placement of more regulations on the resting of the players could affect these players the most. With both of them being in their 30s, they definitely have some thinking to do ahead of the next season. The NBA wants all of its superstars fit and on the court of basketball for as many matches as possible. As the league eyes for an incomprehensible reward, it would be interesting to see how the league reacts to the alterations.
