In 2021, the NBA announced its 75th Anniversary Team which included the Top 75 Greatest Players of all time. It had some obvious inclusions like Michael Jordan, LeBron James and Kobe Bryant. But a few names on the list sparked a debate in the NBA world including the name of Damian Lillard.
Fans believed that the NBA left many legendary players off their Top 75. Tracy McGrady, Vince Carter, and Dwight Howard were some of the biggest names snubbed from the list. 3-time DPOY Howard’s former coach Stan Van Gundy picked Dwight over Lakers star Anthony Davis to make the 75th anniversary team. And now, 7-time Champion Robert Horry has dragged Damian Lillard into the discussion.

When Stan Van Gundy was asked why AD made the Top 75 and Dwight did not, he made a controversial statement backing his former Magic Center, “You cannot make a case that Anthony Davis has had a better career than Dwight Howard. That’s absolutely ridiculous.”
Dwight won 3 straight Defensive Player of the Year awards in Orlando and led the Magic to the 2009 NBA finals against Kobe Bryant and the Lakers. He was a defensive force during his prime and helped AD win his first title in 2020, even in the later stages of his career.
7-time Champion Robert Horry chimed in on the discussion during his Big Shot Bob Podcast. Horry also picked Dwight over Anthony Davis because of Howard’s 3 consecutive DPOY awards, “The only person who can probably do that again is Giannis, if he can stay healthy.” Big Shot Bob had high praise for the 2008 Slam Dunk Champion.
Horry also brought Damian Lillard into the conversation, mentioning his name with AD on the players who should not have made the 75th Anniversary team. “Those two guys, they just ain’t got enough years yet,” the 7-time Champion added.

Many superstars and Hall of Famers were snubbed from the NBA’s list when it came out in 2021. Hall of Famers like Chris Bosh, Pau Gasol, Tony Parker, and Tracy McGrady did not make the team. Apart from them, superstars like Vince Carter and Dwight Howard were also left off the list.
Picking active players who have not played enough years over these accomplished legends did not sit well with many fans. “There should be an age limit to be on that Top 75,” Horry said, supporting the retired players who did not get their flowers.

Damian Lillard and Anthony Davis are superstars in the league and have accomplished a lot in their respective careers. They will be regarded as some of the best to ever do it once they decide to hang their boots. But, as of now, Robert Horry does not think they deserve to be on the Top 75 list. Do you agree with Big Shot Bob?
