The 2024 All-Star Weekend is just around the corner. And fans are eager to see who lifts the 3-point Contest trophy this year. The shooting competition has become one of the highlights of the weekend as the best shooters in the league participate in the event for a chance at glory. We have witnessed some historic performances in the 3-point contest through the years. Stephen Curry holds the record for the highest-scoring round in NBA’s 3-point contest history. However, New York Liberty superstar Sabrina Ionescu shattered Steph’s record in last year’s WNBA 3-point contest.
6 months after Sabrina’s record-breaking performance, Steph issued a challenge to the WNBA star to settle the best shooter dispute for good. In tonight’s Warriors’ pre-game warmup, Steph asked rookie Brandin Podziemski if he knew who holds the record for the most points in the 3-point contest. The rookie replied, “Sabrina (Ionescu).” Steph was amused by the answer and challenged Sabrina for a chance to reclaim his throne. “I think I gotta bring her out. We gotta settle this once and for all.” Steph told Podziemski.

Brandin Podziemski revealed that he and Sabrina have the same agent, so he could make that happen. Steph got fired up by the response and said, “It’ll be lit.” Steph still holds the record for the most points in the NBA 3-point contest. He set that record in 2021 after scoring 31 points in the first round of the contest. However, Sabrina shattered that record across all 3-point contests when she shot lights out 37 points in the final round of last year’s WNBA contest. Ionescu missed only 2 shots in her historic performance and lifted the 3-point contest trophy.

Will Stephen Curry participate in this year’s 3-point contest?
Apart from holding the record for most points in the NBA’s 3-point contest, Steph is also a 2-time 3-Point Contest Champion. He won the event first in 2015 and then again six years later in 2021. So, he might not have anything left to prove to give the event another shot. However, with his new goal to surpass Sabrina Ionescu’s 37-point record and reclaim his throne, he might re-enter the competition one more time. The participants of this year’s 3-point contest are yet to be announced, and fans hope to hear Steph’s name in the mix.

Even though Steph will not get a chance to compete against Ionescu because of being in different leagues, he can take a shot at beating her record. And maybe in a separate event, the NBA World may witness the two legends go head-to-head in a one-of-a-kind 3-point contest.
