James Harden has been in the headlines since his comments about Sixers president Daryl Morey. Harden called his former GM a liar and made it clear that he will not play for any organization that Morey is a part of. This turn of events came as a shock to many NBA fans as Daryl Morey and James Harden used to be close during their Houston Rockets days.

During a heated debate with Stephen A. Smith, Chris Russo, aka Mad Dog, ripped James Harden following his comments.

Mad Dog thinks acquiring James Harden is “a horrific mistake”

During the debate, Mad Dog reminded the fans that Harden did not hold his end of the bargain as well. Russo talked about Harden’s everlasting drama with every team he plays, asking, “When is enough?”

Harden might have been an elite scorer during the regular season, but he has a history of underperforming in the playoffs. Russo brought up Harden’s bad playoff performances against San Antonio, the Golden State Warriors and the Boston Celtics.

“He has never responded with the chips on the line. So, any team out there that wants to bring him in, you are making a horrific mistake.”

Mad Dog added insult to injury when he told Stephen A., “With your life on the line Stephen A., you would not want Harden on your ball club. You know that.”

On the other hand, Stephen A. Smith tried to justify Harden’s comments on Morey.

Stephen A. understands Harden’s side of the story

“I have heard numerous players say that about numerous executives, and that should not be ignored,” said Stephen A. Smith. He stated the possibility of Harden being promised a max contract by Daryl Morey before their team imploded in the playoffs. Daryl Morey was the General Manager in Houston, where Harden played the best basketball of his career, winning an MVP award in 2018. “They’re tight, and all of a sudden, he is saying the man lied,” Stephen A. added, as he stated there might be a reasonable explanation for Harden’s switch.

According to Stephen A., this happens a lot in the NBA, where the front office communicates two different things to the players and the public. A lot of what is promised to the players changes because of their performance on the court and how fans perceive them. In Harden’s case, he might have been promised a max contract before the season, but his value fell drastically after his performance in this year’s playoffs and the Sixers’ early exit.

Harden might not be the player he once was in Houston, but he still has a lot left in the tank, as he averaged 21 points and led the league in assists with 10.7 per game. He played at an All-Star level and will look to find a team where he can maximize his talent.
