The 8x All-Star Kyrie Irving had been an incredible addition to the Dallas Mavericks. Not only has he shown off his brilliance, but he has also demonstrated a lethal partnership with the Slovenian Sensation, Luka Doncic. However, the star guard suffered a heel contusion when his fellow teammate, Dwight Powell, lost his balance and fell right on him. Due to this, Irving has been out since December 8th and has been waiting to make his return to the court ever since.

In the interview with the Dallas Morning News, Irving spoke about how the injury had “scared” him and delved into the details of his daughter’s presence that forced him to act a certain way.

Irving forced himself into ‘dad mode’

During the match against the Portland Trail Blazers, Kyrie Irving suffered this horrific freak injury. He spoke about the injury in an interview and explicitly said that the injury “scared him” however he had to keep a brave face for his daughter’s sake. He said, “I was scared, man. I was very scared. My daughter was at the game. I was trying to make sure she was good first, so I went into daddy mode right after.” However, after he went home, he said he was unable to sleep due to the “throbbing” pain.

He even gave some specifics about the accident, saying, “Any person that tells you when they go through a freak accident that it doesn’t bother them mentally? They’re lying. Everybody saw it. It was one of those plays that could have gone either way. I could have fractured my ankle. I could have broken my ankle.”

The former NBA champion even said that it was not his teammates’ fault and there was no bad blood between the two. All Irving wants now is to return to the court, represent the Dallas Mavericks, and help them attain glory. However, how has he been performing this season prior to his injury?
