Former UFC champion Francis Ngannou and Tyson Fury met in the boxing ring for one of the most anticipated fights on Saturday night in Saudi Arabia. While Fury arrived in Riyadh with a stellar professional record, Ngannou was making his boxing debut. Deemed as one of the hardest hitters in combat-sports history, Francis’ participation in the match was seen as an absolute madness by many.

In all ten rounds of the fight, the MMA star did enough to ensure that he would be declared the winner. In Round 3, he dropped a mean left hook on Fury that stunned everyone in attendance and viewers all over the world. Despite his impressive performance, Fury narrowly defeated Ngannou by split decision (96-93, 95-94 and 94-95).

Not everyone is happy with the result

The results of the match shocked many. Fans and viewers watching it took to social media to express their frustrations. Among those were NBA stars Joel Embiid and Damian Lillard. The Milwaukee Bucks point guard took to his X to share his thoughts at the results. He said, “4 rounds with a knockdown equals what in a 10-round fight?”

The Predator dominated through all the rounds and the obvious dismissal of the immense work he had put in led many to believe that Francis’ obvious win was robbed from him. The Sixers’ center Joel Embiid shared, “NO F WAY FRANCIS GOT ROBBED🇨🇲🇨🇲”

While Ngannou would definitely appreciate the support from fellow Cameroonian, it seems like he is more focussed on coming back to win.

Ngannou promises to be back

Talking to the media post-fight, he stated with determination, “I’m a fighter. And I’m ready to fight any time soon. We can run it back again, and I’m sure I will get the better. This was my first boxing match. It was a great experience. I’m not giving any excuse. I know I came up short. But I’m going to go back and work harder with a little more experience and little more feeling of the game. And I will come back even stronger.”

While he may have won the fight, to many fans and viewers, Francis Ngannou was the winner of the night.
