While the Los Angeles Lakers (11-9) haven’t risen above everyone, they are not down at the bottom at the same time. The closest to an assessment we can get on them is that they are currently on the threshold of the two extremes. They have had a flimsy run in the season so far, and that makes it hard to assess their true potential or determine what we can expect from them.

This has been made harder by the number of injuries they have to deal with, afflicting key players. The Lakers haven’t been able to boast about their complete lineup because of this. In this regard, we can ascertain that we haven’t seen the real collective talent of the complete roster yet. So, it naturally becomes difficult for the team officials to jump the gun on the trade market.

According to sources, the Lakers are taking it slow in the trade market which will be set in motion after the 15th of December. So we shouldn’t expect any immediate restructuring moves; the move is a “patient approach” as they put it. The same source confirmed that they “would prefer to see what their group looks like whole before making a monumental roster decision.”

On the flip side, the Lakers are instead interested in keeping an eye on the league and the moves that other teams will take, at the same time appraising their needs and requirements. They are mostly assessing the fire sales that may potentially occur in Brooklyn, Charlotte, Toronto, or Washington. This will give them an idea of the availability of valuable rotation players.

Considering the situation that the Lakers are in right now, there is no way they can conclude what they need. Jarred Vanderbilt is back on the roster for the first time this season after dealing with a heel injury, Gabe Vincent has played only four games and will be sidelined for Saturday against the Rockets, Cam Reddish and Jaxon Hayes are on day-to-day, and Rui Hachimura is set to return on Saturday for his 13th game of the season.

Needless to say, both LeBron and AD have been dealing with minor injuries now and then. In this mess, it becomes almost impossible for the Lakers to make any moves right now, having not seen the full potential of the team. While there’s always a chance they make a move before the February deadline, trade is much more likely to occur later in the trading window than earlier, much like how they traded in Hachimura a few weeks before the deadline.
