The past few seasons haven’t been kind to the fans of the Detroit Pistons. However, what they have witnessed so far in the 2023-24 season has been nothing short of abysmal. The Current Pistons’ team could go down as the worst team in NBA history. They equaled the NBA record for the longest losing streak this season by enduring 28 consecutive losses.
However, this losing streak proved to be a “blessing in disguise,” according to the franchise cornerstone of the Pistons, Cade Cunningham. He also provided insights into his relationship with Monty Williams.

During a conversation on the Woj Pod, Cade provided some insights into his relationship with his head coach, Monty Williams. He said, “I think going through something as hard as we’ve been going through definitely brings you a lot closer. It’s definitely made us have deep conversations and really get to know where we are coming from, which I think is a blessing in disguise.”
While most rebuilding teams go through a phase of tanking and losing games, the NBA has never witnessed a side as bad as the Pistons. With the season nearing its halfway mark, the Pistons have managed to secure just three victories out of 34 games. At current pace, the Pistons are on track to win only 7 games for the entire season. The Charlotte Bobcats currently hold the worst regular-season win-loss record, having achieved a 7-59 record in 2012.
However, the Bobcats won seven games in a lockout-shortened 2011-12 season. If the Pistons were to match their record of 7 wins, they would be declared the worst team in NBA history based on their win percentage. Due to their abysmal record, a bright future seems improbable. But, the Pistons have a bevy of talented young players, who could go on to become stars of the league in the future.

Does a bright future await the Pistons?
Talking about Detroit having a bright future seems wrong, especially considering they hold the dubious record of being statistically the worst team in NBA history. However, they are a young team and they do possess some extremely talented young players. Players like Cade Cunningham, Ausar Thompson, Jalen Duren, Jaden Ivey and Isaiah Stewart are all under the age of 23.

The Pistons’ hierarchy have shown a lot of faith in Monty Williams. The Pistons pay Williams a yearly salary of $13.05 million, making him the second highest paid coach in the league. But, despite his massive paycheck, Williams hasn’t improved the fortunes of the Pistons. Many fans feel that he isn’t the right man for the job, but only time will tell whether Monty Williams is the right coach or not. Can the Pistons become a formidable force in the future?
