Orlando Magic‘s All-Star Paolo Banchero recently appeared for an exclusive interview with Taylor Rooks. The two discussed Paolo’s aspirations for perfection, his first All-Star game, his recent game-winner against the Detroit Pistons, and much more, even extending talks to the NFL. Talking about his entry to the league, Banchero, oozing confidence like always, felt he fit within the NBA elites right away. Nevertheless, he then shares that his conviction received validation during a memorable encounter with Kevin Durant.

It was Paolo’s first-ever stint against Kevin Durant, faring on the road when KD was with the Brooklyn Nets. The Magic started the game with a promising spark, leading in the first quarter. However, KD soon erupted to help the Nets put up a 1-point advantage at halftime.

Kevin Durant asked for Paolo Banchero’s jersey mid-game

In an already intense game, where the hungry Magic came to prove themselves, veterans on the Nets were forced to bring their best step forward. However, during the clash, Bacnchero reveals that Durant intervened by requesting him for his jersey. Typically, instances of players exchanging their jerseys are reserved as a post-game occurrence, adding a special layer for the then-rookie. With that, as Paolo recounts the moment, he resonates the respect and recognition he felt through Durant’s gesture.

The November 28 2022 game saw the Nets beating the Magic in a closely contested 109-102 game. Paolo Banchero led the magic with 24 points on 52.9% shooting from the floor. However, what truly amplifies Paolo’s story is that Kevin Durant posted a humungous 45 points in the game, reflecting on KD’s urgency to address Paolo’s talent even during a hot night.

Moreover, in a recent interview, Magic’s coach Jamahl Mosley compared Banchero’s skillset to LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony. While rendering similarities in Banchero’s game, he said, “The thing about Paolo is he’s so dynamic. To put him in line with just one player is hard to do, because he has the passing ability of a LeBron, the scoring ability of a Melo.”

Fortunately, Orlando fans would agree with Mosley, signifying that Magic’s future holds Paolo’s growing IQ in its future.
