Stephen Curry has been blessed with an amazing life. He is the son of Former NBA player Dell Curry and has lived under the spotlight since he was a kid. At 35 years old, Steph is considered one of the Basketball GOATs. But he had a major hiccup in his personal life when his parents, Dell and Sonya Curry, decided to end their 33-year-long marriage in 2021.

1 year after their ugly divorce, Steph’s mother, Sonya Curry, opened up about her mid-life crisis in her 40s and what it was like becoming an empty nester.

Sonya Curry’s Mid-Life Crisis

Sonya Curry was a guest on the Unbothered Podcast hosted by Jemelle Hill in 2022. Steph’s mother talked about battling with depression through different stages of her life. Sonya also revealed she had a mid-life crisis in her 40s when her three children, Steph, Seth, and Sydel, started growing up and left the house to build their future. The crisis hit her after she saw her daughter graduating. “What’s gonna be my purpose now?” Sonya asked herself.

The 57-year-old also talked about dealing with the haunting silence after her children left home, “No more children in the house, Dell and I figuring out this thing as well of just the silence is the house.” This big change took a toll on Sonya’s emotional health, and she fell into a mid-life crisis, losing a sense of purpose in her life. Years later, the Warriors legend’s mother reflected on the tough time, calling it, “It was an end of something vs. the beginning of something, I would say.”

It all turned out well for Sonya Curry

It is natural for a parent to feel lonely and abandoned when their child leaves his childhood home. But that is a necessary step that needs to be taken in order to find success. And Sonya Curry will be happy that her children took that step at the right time. With her two sons playing in the NBA at the highest level and her daughter finding success in the media world, Sonya Curry could not have been any prouder of her children.

Even though the relationship between Sonya Curry and Hornets legend Dell Curry has ended, they continue to support their children by showing up at their games and cheering for them wholeheartedly. Sonya can look back at her mid-life crisis and have some level of satisfaction that everything turned out great eventually.
