“One That We Gotta Figure Out”: Paul George in Awe of Chet Holmgren After 21YO Handed Clippers 1st Loss in 10 Games

The Clippers and the Thunder had their first face-off of the season today, and it did not end well for James Harden and Co. Their’ nine-game winning streak came to an end at the hands of the Thunders, who served them a 134-115 loss. The star of the show, undoubtedly, was the young player from OKC Chet Holmgren, who astonished everyone with a display of his insane skills. The 21-year-old contributed 23 points, six rebounds and seven assists.

Chet almost singlehandedly shifted the tide in OKC’s favor during his majestic run in the third quarter. Paul George, who was on the losing side, was caught off guard by the rookie’s performance and has nothing but praises for Chet.

Chet gave the Clippers a tough time

Speaking to an interviewer after the game, PG13 admits that none of them was prepared for how Chet would unarm them and take over the floor. Credit where due, PG praises Chet’s talent, and his only takeaway from the game was this, “He’s a tough match-up, one that we gotta figure out.” It looks like the star-studded Clippers were not ready for Chet and they will have a lot of figuring out to do.

Paul does admit that Chet caught the entire team off-guard, “He’s a talent, man. He’s a talent. We didn’t quite figure it out…He can play and move around like a guard, a wing. So he gave us, you know, he gave us some problems. His ability to shoot, play off the bounce, and his length. I thought that was, uh, kinda threw us off-guard a little bit.”

The Chet Holmgren moment

During the Thursday game, the moment that stood out more than anything else was Chet’s backboard shot. In a beautiful moment of adrenaline, the rookie took a chance and threw the ball at the backboard. Poetically, the ball bounced back into his hands, who caught it and sank a dunk in the third quarter, changing the tides and giving the lead to OKC.

Standing 7’1″, Chet is becoming a deadly shot blocker, making opponents think twice before finishing at the rim. His immaculate playmaking skills and composure in the face of defenders’ attempts to post him up have made him a dominant force in the paint; none of his shots seem forced or awkward. Chet is a player who studies every game and his level of making advanced adjustments in his plays is out of this world. Surely, there is more to this rookie than we see, and only time will unfold the greatness that is Chet Holmgren.
