162-Year-Old Nonprofit Organization Grasp the Jersey Patch Deal With Atlanta Hawks

It has been tough for the Atlanta Hawks this past week, who are currently hoping to break their three-home-game losing streak. However, amidst the uncertainty, Hawks fans are in for good news. In tomorrow’s In-Season Tournament game against the Indiana Pacers, the Hawks won’t just be looking for a win to break their dry spell; they will also debut new jerseys.

The Hawks announced a multiyear partnership today with the 162-year-old non-profit organization YMCA of Metro Atlanta. As per the deal, the YMCA?s signature ‘Y’ logo will become the Hawks? official jersey patch partner. As a result of the partnership, the familiar ?Y? logo will make a comeback, starting with tomorrow?s home game versus the Pacers.

Since the YMCA is the Hawks’ official jersey patch partner now, their traditional ‘Y’ word mark will also be featured on all Hawks uniforms, including the organization?s NBA G League College Park Skyhawks and the physical uniforms of their NBA 2K League affiliates, Hawks Talon GC. While the deal has come to fruition, the dates for retail availability are yet to be decided.

The connection between the YMCA and the Hawks dates back to 1891. The founder of the sport of basketball, Dr. James Naismith, invented the game while teaching physical education at the YMCA International Training School in Springfield, Mass. This connection also extends to executives and many active players on the team who are ex-YMCA. The list includes?Hawks GM?Landry Fields and two roster players, Trae Young?and?Kobe Bufkin.

The Y and Hawks’ philanthropic endeavors

The Y has helped millions of Atlantans through its programs and initiatives since 1858. The YMCA of Metro Atlanta consists of 35 locations spread across the metropolitan Atlanta area. These include community wellness centers, early learning facilities, and youth and teen centers, impacting over 250,000 individuals on an annual basis.

On the other hand, the Hawks have been focusing on increasing access to safe playing and learning spaces in underserved communities. They have renovated approximately 30 courts and nine State Farm Good Neighbor Clubs throughout greater Atlanta. Moreover, they have also offered hundreds of scholarships to Hawks camps and clinics.

The collaboration will also bring the two organizations together to positively impact the lives of Atlantans. Hawks will support the YMCA in its various endeavors, including urgent community needs, promoting social responsibility, and uplifting inclusive communities with strong DEI values. The Hawks will also launch a series of campaigns aimed at drawing in new YMCA members and raising funds in support of the Y’s mission.
