Despite having some of the biggest superstars throughout the years, the Los Angeles Clippers have never won the NBA Championship. Forget the NBA Championship, the Clippers have never even made it to the NBA Finals. The furthest they have been in the playoffs was to the Western Conference Finals in 2021. The Los Angeles Clippers have always been second fiddle to the Los Angeles Lakers, who hold the record for most championships in NBA history.

However, the Clippers’ lack of success has not affected the financial status of their owner, Steve Ballmer. The $101 Billion rich ex-Microsoft CEO holds the position of the Richest USA Sports Team Owner.

Steve Ballmer became the owner of the Los Angeles Clippers in 2014 after he bought the franchise for a whopping $2 Billion. He was hopeful for the team?s quick success as they were in the middle of the Lob City era and had the potential to win it all. Even though Chris Paul and Co entertained the Clippers fans every night with flashy plays and crazy Alley Oops, they could never get past the second round in the playoffs. Ballmer saw a glimmer of hope when he acquired 2-time NBA Champion Kawhi Leonard and superstar Paul George in 2019. Kawhi had just come off a Championship season in Toronto, and Ballmer was hopeful that Kawhi would lead the Clippers to their first title in franchise history. Unfortunately, the superstar duo was constantly plagued by injuries and could not find much success.

Despite his lack of success after buying the franchise, Steve Ballmer remains the Richest Owner among any USA Sports team. In the 2023 Forbes 400 list, Ballmer was reported to have a net worth of a staggering $101 Billion. The majority of his wealth comes from his stocks in Microsoft. Ballmer was the CEO of Microsoft from 2000-2014. Even the Los Angeles Clippers’ value has nearly doubled since he purchased the franchise. The team is valued at $3.9 Billion. Ballmer is well past the competition in terms of net worth because the closest owner to him is the owner of the Denver Broncos, Rob Walton, who has a net worth of $67.4 Billion.
