The Oklahoma City Thunder have been on a good run lately, demolishing everyone in their path. They have dominated more than ever during their five-game winning streak. The most recent one was the 127-123 victory against the Celtics on Tuesday, establishing a significant lead early on and fending off a comeback attempt toward the end of the second half.

The Celtics are currently leading the Eastern Conference with a 26-7  record, the best one in the league so far. This win has greatly boosted the morale and spirits of OKC, but 21-year-old star Chet Holmgren chooses to remain stoic about the situation, as he is focused on big success in the long run.

Holmgren, who is content that the team is in sync and playing to win, says, “But as far as long term, it doesn’t really prove anything, I guess you could say, or it doesn’t kind of satisfy anybody. We know we have a long ways to go. We’re at 32 games into the season, so we still have 50 games left.” The rookie asserts that they still have a lot to learn as a team and keep in mind the lessons they have already learned.

He seems more focused than ever and is already looking to improve his game without getting ahead of himself. On Tuesday, Holmgren contributed 14 points, three rebounds, and an impressive seven assists. This win puts the Thunder second in leading the Western Conference with a 23-9 record. If we look back at the OKC’s last five games, it shows a pattern that has been greatly dominating.

OKC’s improvement from last season

A day after Christmas, they destroyed the Timberwolves in a wide 129-106 home win, that kick-started their winning streak. The Nuggets‘ massive defeat on December 29 by a score of 26 points was another huge win in their bag. After improving by 14 games to 40-42 last season, OKC is becoming a serious threat to opponents, despite being the second-youngest team this season.

They have eased themselves into the title contention run, and as Holmgren puts it, “It says that we’re really playing together and we’re prioritizing winning over anything else.” With just one loss in their previous nine games, Oklahoma City is gearing up for a stop at Atlanta on Wednesday as they gradually establish themselves as a team to be reckoned with this season.

From a dark horse playoff contender, the OKC has propelled itself into a straight-up title contender. Do you think the Thunder can keep up this consistency?
