Kevin Durant is undoubtedly among the greats of the game. However, naysayers have always attacked his legacy, debating that the rings he has are only because Durant left Russell Westbrook stranded in OKC to join the team that defeated him. Despite this argument now being commonplace among Durant haters, it crops up now and again, and recently a user named Jacob the Clipper bought it up, once again, on X.

However, this time KD responded in the way he has been known to fire back at haters now and again. “I can sit at any table at any time and talk basketball comfortably with anybody that has played the game, but Jacob the clipper said I couldn’t. Nobody knows u bro, move around. U have no credentials in my world,” fired back Durant.

However, the Slim Reaper sounded a bit contrasted as he sent out another post where he explained himself further saying, ” U gotta accept that u won’t change my mind on these things and me saying them out loud has no real effect on your life, u can just ignore me and move on, you don’t have to engage.” Despite bearing the brunt of KD’s retort, one has to wonder if there is truth in the fan’s argument.

Statistically speaking, even a novice of the NBA knows Durant doesn’t have the numbers to compare with Jordan or LBJ, for that matter. However, the post didn’t have that as its central argument, ‘Jacob the Clipper’ argued that if Jordan had shifted bases to the Pistons after being defeated by them or similarly, if Bron did the same, would they still be considered great?

The answer isn’t simple. However, KD is a unicorn even if one separates KD from the Dubs. He was an MVP, the youngest scoring champion, and he took a young OKC team to the finals. While that may not be enough to be considered the GOAT, it’s a unique feat, regardless. As history unfolds, it’s now impossible to know if KD would have won if he hadn’t joined the Warriors, but that’s the legacy of modern NBA players like Kevin Durant’s career. It’s complicated.
