Usher and LeBron go way back
However, the relationship between James and Usher dates back to LeBron’s stint with the Cleveland Cavaliers. The pop star had invested $9 million in the Cleveland Cavaliers for a 1% stake in the franchise. The Cavs drafted LeBron in 2003 as the first overall pick, and the Ohio native single-handedly led the team to the NBA Finals in 2007. Naturally, with the team’s improving condition, its value also increased. As a result, Usher’s investment was proving to be a success thanks to young LeBron James. And it finally paid off when the Cavaliers won their first NBA championship in franchise history back in 2016. His investments quadrupled as the Akron Hammer rose to superstardom in the Cavs jersey.
Usher was also a part of the celebrations on the court as LeBron ended the Cavaliers’ 52-year championship drought. King James also broke several records while creating history for the Cavs. He became the third player to record a triple-double after Jerry West and James Worthy, scoring 27 points, 11 rebounds, and 11 assists. The duo of LeBron James and Kyrie Irving stunned the defending champions Golden State Warriors in a 4-3 upset. The victory was even more special because the Cavs made a historical comeback from 3 to 1 to win the best of seven-game series.
