Los Angeles Lakers has been like a mother to him as he tries to soar high under the wings of LeBron James. Austin Reaves came from a humble background, away from the hustle and bustle of city life. He is from Arkansas Newark. The 2020 census tells us that the population is 1180 there. Growing up as a Lakers fan, he played for Wichita State and Norman Oklahoma in his college career.

He made his NBA debut by scoring eight points against the Phoenix Suns in 2021. He recently gave a sneak peek into how his lifestyle has been in the new city.

Austin Reeves on his time in Los Angeles

In the Old Man and The Three podcast with JJ Reddick, Austin Reaves recently opened up on a host of issues. He was also asked about his time in the city and if he was prepared to live in the big city. Austin went on to detail how he spent the time and how he dealt with the new environment.

He shared that he mostly was involved in his hobbies and did not get distracted by anything else.

Austin said, “

It was kind of easy for me I’m a sense of like you said I love basketball and golf. I don’t really do much else. I’m not the end of the nightlife. You can find me in one of four practice facilities, the golf course, my house, and Staples or crypto. I keep it very simple but you know the one thing that sucks is traffic out there.” 

Reaves also shared that traffic was something he didn’t have a good opinion of. Additionally, he shared that the upbringing of his parents helped him focus and not get distracted. Further, he said that he usually spends his time playing games like Call of Duty and Fortnite. He also had an interesting story to share about how he went on to earn the trust of the veteran LeBron James.

Austin Reaves on earning LeBron’s trust

Austin Reaves shared that in Game 1 of the Memphis series, he earned the desired trust level. He shared that the two had chemistry and trust from the start. He shared that in the fourth quarter when there was a shot and rebound, he outlasted LeBron.

He later shared LeBron’s reaction,

“Obviously I ran to the corner, Bron’s got the ball. And I get to half court, and I hear him yelling my name and saying ‘come get the ball.’ I was like ‘oh s–t, I’ve gotta make something happen.’ I think that’s maybe when I hit the three or the jump shot, one of the two. For me, at least, everything went to slow motion. I can’t make him look stupid, he’s giving me the ball and everyone is probably looking at him sideways for giving me the ball.”
