The NBA All-Star weekend is right around the corner. The roar of excitement has everyone going into a spree of frenzy as Adam Silver is bringing back the East vs. West Conference battle on Sunday night. But this isn’t something that Jrue Holiday is interested in. He’s rather keeping an eye out on Boston Celtics standout Jaylen Brown with his NBA Slam Dunk Contest.
Despite being a prominent name in the NBA, participating in the Dunk Contest might be a gamble for someone like Brown who’s rather not known for his dunking prowess. Of course, all eyes will be on him. And if he succumbs, his Celtics teammate won’t back off! In a rather hilarious encounter with the press, Jrue Holiday had this to say about Brown’s participation in the dunking contest: “I told him if he stinks, then I’m going to repost it.” This came right after the Celtics’ win (118-110) over the Nets on Tuesday. He further added, “How embarrassed I’m going to be.”

Of course, Holiday was just kidding, but the Guard playfully hinted he would definitely tease Brown if he doesn’t perform in the contest. And keeping jokes aside, he did wish Brown the very best and he can’t wait for him to get into action on Saturday. He admires his decision to not take the night off and showcase his skills at the event.
“I’m excited for him,” Holiday expressed. He further added, “Obviously, I know that, especially with the Dunk Contest, especially the big-name guys, All-Star break is a time to rest and kind of regain your mental strength. But I think to go out there and do the dunk contest is big. And again, a big name like JB, who’s super athletic, and you see the dunks he does in-game, I’m excited to see him.”
Despite Brown being the biggest name in the contest, he has stiff competition.
Brown might need support!
Brown will be the first ex-Cal NBA star to participate in the official Slam Dunk Contest. He will probably need others’ help, including Jayson Tatum, on Saturday at the Lucas Oil Stadium. In a separate interview in the context of the dunking contest, Brown said, “I may or may not use props”. He further added, “I got about six in the chamber or whatever. We’ll see which ones I end up going with, but definitely be on the look for (Tatum) to make an appearance on it.
Brown is also going to be the first player who is not just participating in the Slam Dunk Contest, but also in the All-Star Game, in the same year. The last time this happened with in 2017, with DeAndre Jordan. Nevertheless, Brown says he wants to utilize this weekend to celebrate and have fun with his teammates, including Tatum. In fact, Tatum himself volunteered to join Brown and help him out earlier.

Brown has also given a few indications of what his strategy is going to look like in the upcoming contest. He said, “Everything has been done. I think just my approach is just to have fun with it and put my own little style, my own little swag on things. Everything has been done, but I feel like I bring a uniqueness. So I plan on putting my own style and bringing my own swag to it and just go from there.”
Before this, Brown had turned the invite to the Slam Dunk Contest twice, but this time around things changed and he decided to join in this time. The 27-year-old NBA star says that he is in his athletic prime and it will be fun to be a part of such a contest. He wishes more and more people to come together and compete in the competition!

All things said and done, it will be a delight to see Brown giving it all in the contest, where he’s going to have some stiff competition. He will be challenged by some NBA explosives like Jaime Jaquez Jr. Mac McClung, and Jacob Toppin. So, will he live up to his fans’ and especially Jrue Holiday’s expectations? We’ll never know until Saturday. Surely, it will be a contest to watch out for!
