The NBA All-Star Saturday Night kicked off with the Kia Skills Challenge. The contest had 3 elite teams facing each other to test their diverse skillset. Rookie Victor Wembanyama participated in the Challenge as part of Team First Picks alongside rising stars Anthony Edwards and Paolo Banchero. However, the three first-round draft picks suffered embarrassment because of the wild antics of Anthony Edwards.

The Minnesota Timberwolves star decided to challenge himself and shot left-handed layups and three-pointers during the relay round of the event. While Edwards successfully made the layup on his first try, he missed all three of his three-point attempts. Victor Wembanyama and Co. ended up losing the contest. After the Skills Challenge loss, Wemby revealed his thoughts about Anthony Edwards’ antics, “They wanted to have fun.” He was not happy with the loss and said, “Fun is winning.”

While Anthony Edwards wanted to have fun at the Skills Challenge, Wembanyama believed winning the contest would have been more fun. Team First Picks had an embarrassing performance at the event even before Edwards’ left-hand experiment. Wemby’s teammate Paolo Banchero went the wrong way during the relay round and had to be guided by the official. They were chasing Team All-Stars’ time and failed miserably as the time expired while Edwards was still shooting his left-handed three-pointers. Even in the passing round, Team First Picks had the lowest score among the three participating teams.

Team Pacers were not joking around

Team First Picks were not the only team that took the Skills Challenge lightly. Team All-Stars, including Trae Young, Tyrese Maxey, and Scottie Barnes, also had some embarrassing moments during the event. Scottie Barnes opened the event for Team All-Stars and lost his dribble in the first few seconds of the relay round. Tyrese Maxey followed the act and went the wrong way while dribbling through the obstacles. It looked like the participants were not even familiar with the rules of the event. Team Pacers were the only team with a near-perfect performance in the KIA Skills Challenge.

Tyrese Haliburton, Myles Turner, and Bennedict Mathurin dominated the relay round. Haliburton even finished the round with an off-the-backboard alley-oop to himself. Team Pacers continued their impressive form in the passing and shooting rounds. They eventually beat Team All-Stars in the half-court shot contest and lifted the KIA Skills Challenge trophy. The crowd in Indiana was hyped after witnessing their home team win the event. However, the story could have been different if Anthony Edwards had not shot the ball with his left hand during the event.
