The New York Knicks went head-to-head against the last-seeded Detroit Pistons tonight. Despite having an ordinary night on the court, Knicks Center Mitchell Robinson won everyone’s hearts after a story surfaced about him. His high school coach, Butch Stockton, present at the game, shared an emotional story that showed the softer side of Robinson.

Mitchell Robinson helped his high school coach during a rough patch

Mitchell Robinson’s high school coach Butch Stockton was interviewed during the Knicks-Pistons game. The coach revealed a heart-breaking and tender story and said, “My wife passed away in September. When my wife was in the hospital, Mitchell came each day to visit her.” Mitchell’s concern for his high school coach did not end there. At Butch’s wife’s funeral, Mitchell told the Chalmette High School coach to live with him in New York to recover from his grief. Stockton took that offer and has been Robinson’s roommate since the start of the season.

The change in environment has helped Stockton deal with his wife’s passing, and he claimed that living with Mitchell has been a great situation. Robinson played for the Chalmette High School varsity team from 2015 to 2017 and was a beast during that time. Under Stockton’s guidance, Mitchell averaged 22.8 points, 12.6 rebounds, and 6.9 blocks per game. That helped him get into the NBA at 20 years old. Hopefully, he will continue to do the good work, but right now, the Knicks need some more helping hands.

Where do the New York Knicks stand this season?

The New York Knicks are slowly paving their way back into NBA relevance. They have been one of the worst teams in the league since 2000. But their performance in recent years and decent off-season moves have slowly made them a good team. They reached the Eastern Conference semi-final last season after adding Jalen Brunson to their roster. Their performance this season has also been incredible, and they are currently ranked 5th in the East with an 11-7 record.

The Knicks continued their impressive form tonight as they beat Detroit 118-112. Jalen Brunson had another dominant performance, scoring 42 points, 8 assists, and 6 rebounds. His co-star, Julius Randle, also played great and finished the game with 29 points, 10 rebounds, and 8 assists. New York has a talented young roster, and they are definitely a playoff team this year. But, to make a run for the Championship, they might have to add another star player to their roster. Their competition is heavily loaded, and the Knicks do not have much playoff experience. So, the addition of another superstar will help their chances significantly.
