Due to a poor showing at the 1988 Seoul Olympics, they assembled the ‘Dream Team’. This Dream Team was responsible for winning the USA the gold medal at the 1992 Olympics. And the team was not just any team; it was legends such as Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, and many other superstars.
Well, it looks like history is repeating itself, as LeBron has called Steph Curry and Kevin Durant to represent the USA at the 2024 Paris Olympics. This comes after Team USA’s dismal showing at the FIBA World Cup, where they finished fourth. Losing the Bronze medal match to Canada.

In light of Team USA’s poor performance at the FIBA World Cup, LeBron is looking to assemble an All-Star team of performers to accompany him to the Paris Olympics. LeBron has recruited names such as Jayson Tatum, Draymond Green, and Anthony Davis according to the Athletic.
Former ESPN reporter Rich Eisen discussed LeBron’s interest in representing the USA at the Olympics on his show. Eisen had this to say about LeBron, “He wants to have this generation’s mantle of being ‘Jordan of this generation’. Let’s get the dream team together one more time and do it on the Olympic stage in Paris. Because we shouldn’t be losing to the Germans”. Eisen’s co-host, Chris Brockman, added, “It’s just the World Cup, we don’t take it as seriously as the Olympics. That team is not going to the Olympics. It’s a little bit of a god-savior complex”.

There is no debate that the USA has the best basketball players. And after a poor showing at a tournament, they can call upon their transcendent talents to bail them out at the following tournament. This happened at the Tokyo Olympics too, where they won the Gold Medal after finishing 7th at the FIBA World Cup in 2019.
Jordan vs. LeBron is a debate that will rage on for the entirety of our lifetime. People will always compare whatever LeBron does to Jordan because these two legends are in a league of their own. But, right now, LeBron’s desire to win the Olympic Gold for his country shouldn’t deserve any criticism. And speaking historically, with power-packed performers like them, Team USA can in no time reverse the mistakes and get another medal back home.
