March Madness is in full swing, and basketball fans are already witnessing old records being broken. The Oakland Golden Grizzlies beat the Kentucky Wildcats 80-76 in the first round of the NCAA tournament. The biggest reason for Oakland’s win tonight was the elite shooting performance of guard Jack Gohlke. He put on a shooting clinic, eventually taking down 4-time NBA Champion Stephen Curry’s prestigious Davidson record.
Jack Gohlke shot lights out against the Wildcats and made an insane 10 three-pointers in tonight’s win. With his 10th three-pointer for the night, Gohlke surpassed Stephen Curry’s Davidson College record of 9 threes in an NCAA game. The Oakland guard finished the night with a game-high 32 points.

Gohlke also became the 5th player in history to score 10 or more three-pointers in an NCAA tournament game. The other 4 players to do it before him were Jeff Fryer (1990), Carsen Edwards (2019), Roburt Sallie (2009), and Freddie Banks (1987). Unfortunately, Gohlke was unable to break the record for most three-pointers in an NCAA tournament game. That coveted record still belongs to Loyola Marymount’s Jeff Fryer. Jeff made a record 11 shots from beyond the arc on March 18, 1990, against Michigan.
While Gohlke fell two three-pointers shy from making history, he hasn’t run out of opportunities just yet. Gohlke will have another chance to catch up to Fryer in the next game as the Grizzlies advance to the second round of the tournament after tonight’s win. Gohlke has exceptionally all year, averaging 12.2 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 1.1 assists. And he will be happy to know that he surpassed Stephen Curry tonight.

Jack Gohlke is not the first college player to break a Stephen Curry record this month. A few weeks ago, Iowa superstar Caitlin Clark also etched her name in the history books by surpassing the Warriors superstar’s record. Clark became the NCAA leader (Men and Women) for most three-pointers made in a season after making her 163rd three in a win against Penn State. Clark broke Stephen Curry and Darius McGhee’s previous record of 162 three-pointers to become the sole leader.

Steph set the previous 162 three-pointer record during the 2007-08 season. And McGhee matched Steph’s record last year. So, Steph has basically witnessed two of his major college records getting shattered within two weeks. That is not surprising considering the number of three-pointers players are allowed to take in today’s game. With that, fans might soon rejoice of another record and with it, an emergence of new talent.
