Stephen Curry has been the buzz a lot lately. His documentary, “Underrated” has been on everyone’s lips since its release. The documentary talks about his time in the Davidson Wildcats and his journey into the NBA. However, in one scene in the documentary, Curry talked about a memory that he would not want to remember. He revised this scene during a recent interview.

Stephen Curry’s NBA career has been one for the ages. With an unparalleled shooting ability, the 2 time MVP has built an incredible legacy in the NBA. His time in Davidson, too, was nothing short of legendary. The 6’2 guard broke records and made history throughout his time in Davidson. However, he did not have the best of starts.

Curry joined Davidson as an excited teenager to pursue his basketball journey. After a rejection from the Duke Blue Devils, Curry had a chip on his shoulder to perform for the Wildcats and prove his doubters wrong. However, his first game with the Wildcats did not go as planned.

In a recent interview on Big Boy’s Neighbourhood, Curry opened up about the disastrous start to his Wildcats career.

“First game of playing against Eastern Michigan….don’t get defeated by your failures like I had 13 turnovers in my first game“, he said.

He then recalled, “Coach McKillop, I had 9 at halftime and he had to decide whether he was going to keep playing me or not because I was bad”

Curry had an embarrassing outing in his very first college game. However, he was not the only one that felt that way. Popular radio show host, Big Boy, also talked about watching Curry’s first game, giving him a brutally honest opinion.

Big Boy shares a brutally honest opinion

Big Boy has been a renowned radio host for several years. It was on his show, Big Boy’s Neighbourhood that Curry got candid about his first college game. Interestingly, Big Boy did not hold back either while sharing his opinion about Curry’s performance.

Replying to Curry’s story, Big Boy said, “You know what, I know how it turned out right, I’m sitting here with you, I know Steph Curry legacy”. However, he then went on to share his opinion about the infamous game.

“Even when I was watching that and 13 turnovers, I was like this dude s**ks. Dude, I was like man! I hope this dude turn into something because looking at this, I was like oh my god bro“, he said.

He further added, “My son play basketball. If my son and I encourage him on everything, man, but 13 turnovers, I would have been like Son. You know what, Daddy could bring you to Big Boy’s Neighbourhood. You don’t have to embarrass the family like this“.

Big Boy shared an honest opinion about Curry’s performance. However, the 9-time All-Star never let this poor outing define him. Curry bounced back incredibly from his underwhelming performance, averaging a whopping 21.5 PPG in his freshman year. He also led the Wildcats to their first NCAA tournament win since 1969, dropping 40 on the Gonzaga Bulldogs later in his glorious time with the Wildcats.

The 4-time champion has had his share of poor outings in the NBA as well. However, he never let them define him due, in part, to the early lesson he learned in Davidson.
