Dallas Mavericks faced off against Boston Celtics in what was a battle between two companions turned counterparts. While Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown led the effort for the latter team by scoring 32 and 25 points respectively, power forward Kristaps Porzingis also made a significant contribution to the overall score by securing 24 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists for his team. This combined offensive effort helped the team to push forward and register their 47 win of the season. While Celtics fans rejoiced, the Mavericks chose to take the loss in their stride, with point guard Luka Doncic going as far as to send his flowers to his former teammate and current rival.

Soon after the game concluded, a post on X started to gain traction. It featured a statement from Doncic in which he applauded Porzingis’s efforts in “popping and shooting that thing” and highlighting him as a “great addition” to the Boston Celtics.

“He’s been a great addition to them. I talked to him for a little bit and he’s really happy that he’s here. So, I’m happy for him, too,” said Doncic.

Despite losing, Doncic himself pulled off a great performance by scoring an astonishing 37 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists. Many people anticipated some form of tension to be present between Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis, who used to be teammates for over three seasons before the latter was sent to the Celtics. For quite a long time, there were rumors circulating that the duo did not used to get along and that there was always a bit of competition between them. Such rumors were never verified and were considered baseless when Porzingis got the chance to tell his side of the story.

Kristaps Porzingis wished that he had better “communication” with Luka Doncic

During an appearance on JJ Redick’s ‘The Old Man and the Three’ show barely three months ago, Kristaps Porzingis was asked whether there was ever the existence of a ‘pissing contest’ between him and Luka Doncic. Porzingis revealed that the situation between them was not that great “early on” but also that both of them tried “to make it work”.

“It’s just I think communication, like maturity, communication on both of our parts should have been better,” said Porzingis during the interview.
