Draymond Green had been relatively calm since his return from his “indefinite” suspension, with zero fouls until Saturday. However, everything blew up once again when the Golden State Warriors‘ defensive anchor came face-to-face with the Phoenix Suns’ center, Jusuf Nurkic, on Saturday. You see, the above-mentioned penalty was handed to Green for striking Jurkic on the side of the face. So naturally, their first encounter since Green’s return was expected to be drama-filled. And drama-filled it was.

They went back and forth throughout the game. Apart from physical play and verbal jabs, the two also hit each other with the “too small” celebration. The on-court beef then spilled into the post-game conference, where both of them did not hold back as they fired shots at each other.

In the recent episode of FanDuel’s Run It Back, Clippers legend Lou Williams gave his piece on the squabble. He believes that it would be hard for Nurkic to forgive someone who hit him, and Dray, on the other hand, has been adamant about not changing his ways for anyone else. Therefore, sparks are bound to fly every time they see each other. “These are probably two guys that are just not going to like each other, and every time they compete against each other, you’re going to see some chirping,” remarked Williams.

He further added, “This is a personal thing at this point. I feel both guys, they have said their piece, they both standing on business and that’s what we are going to see coming from those two guys.” If their post-game comments are any indication, Williams might be onto something here.

Draymond Green and Jusuf Nurkic take the drama off-court

After their first on-court scuffle, Nurkic believed that Green deserved a shot at bettering himself. However, all his sympathy evaporated after what ensued on Saturday, and he expressed as much in an interview. “It’s sad. He didn’t learn anything. Just a matter of time. He’s going to hit somebody else again. Take back everything I said. He don’t deserve a chance… Antics. Try to hit people. Stuff that he shouldn’t do,” Jusuf Nurkic said to the reporter.

When made aware of Nurkic’s comments about him, Green snapped back, saying, “He tried to get in my head and it didn’t work… He was hitting me a lot today. It was a lot of little cheap shots. I knew his goal was to get me out the game. No one wants to see me in the game. That makes the game a lot tougher. It’d take a pretty good ish talker to get me to do that. That’s too obvious. It’s OK. That was a fun game.”

Despite what transpired on the court, Green had a pretty decent game, finishing with 15 points, seven rebounds, and nine assists as the Warriors humbled the Suns in a 113–112 nail-biter. Nurkic, on the other hand, had an underwhelming outing, scoring just six points, six rebounds, and four assists.
