Lonely Stephen Curry Had a Heartbreaking Reality Check After Telling His Friends About a Major Life Decision

College basketball in the United States is a major stepping stone for success in the sport. High school athletes compete for years to set themselves apart to earn a spot in a top college teams’ roster. But that’s not how Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry announced his arrival in the basketball world.

Stephen Curry is a champion to its absolute essence. The 34-year-old has had an unbelievably successful career, reaching the greatest heights of glory in the NBA. The Golden State Warriors point guard also accumulated several individual accolades along his journey. But his journey to the top began from his days in Davidson, a university that was not so popular for basketball. On his recent documentary feature film, Curry opened up about a bitter memory regarding his admission to Davidson.

Stephen Curry has served as a pivotal part of the Warriors dynasty in the NBA. Winning 4 championships and a Finals MVP with the franchise, Curry has etched his name in Warriors’ history. He is now a global icon and shares a close bond with the Big Three members, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green as well as several other players in the NBA. But as a high schooler, Curry was not the most popular kid on the block.

Curry released his documentary, “Underrated” where he opened up about his journey to the NBA. Released on Apple TV+, it provides a detailed insight into what Curry went through before becoming an NBA superstar. The Chef revealed a memory of his when he told his high school friends about going to Davidson to pursue his basketball journey.

“I felt great. I really felt like I had made the right decision,” he said, expressing how he felt about choosing Davidson.

However, Curry’s high school friends did not share his excitement about his decision. “So, I went to watch a school football game two or three days later, and I told all my friends like yo I know where I’m going to school next year. I’m going to Davidson. And nobody knew where it was. That hype in that moment for me was so dope and then  nobody could really meet me on that level emotionally and like, celebrate it with me.”

His friends may not have known about Davidson but Curry still felt excited to join the university. What Curry did after he joined Davidson however, definitely made an unprecedented noise about the university.

Curry put Davidson on the map

Stephen Curry made a massive statement as the Davidson Wildcats’ point guard. However, it was recently revealed that it was never his first choice. The 2 time NBA MVP initially chose Duke as his topmost preference to pursue his basketball journey. However, the Duke Blue Devils did not match Curry’s interest. After not making it to Duke, even as a walk on, Curry joined Davidson.

Curry’s days in Davidson truly propelled him to be a top pick in the 2009 NBA Draft. The lanky North Carolina native had a legendary stint with Davidson, making history with the Wildcats. He averaged an impressive 21.5 PPG and 4.6 RPG in just his freshman year, also getting the Blue Devils interested. He then went on to have two unbelievable seasons with the Wildcats, also delivering them several wins in the NCAA tournament after their long draught.

His terrific seasons with the Wildcats elevated his status as a top point guard in the country. This led to the Warriors drafting him with the 7th overall pick in the 2009 NBA Draft. The 9 time All Star may have had a Hall of Fame career in the NBA but his Davidson days are still significant in his life.
