Paul George is one among those unfortunate NBA players who still haven’t won a championship. In his 13-season-long career, he has played for three franchises and his odds to win championship increased when he teamed up with Kawhi Leonard. The 8x all-star lately narrated a devastating incident which curbed his chance at the ring. And it came in during his initial phase of his career at the Indiana Pacers camp.
During the 2019 offseason, the Los Angeles Clippers roped in PG and Leonard and created championship buzz in the NBA world. However, things didn’t go as planned for the duo, as they missed a plenty of games due to injuries. Nevertheless, the team seems determined about the upcoming season as both stars are fit. Amid his promising time, George drifts back in memory lane with a tragic story.
PG narrates a tragic story before Kawhi Leonard era

Paul George featured in the recent episode of The Stephen A. Smith Show and discussed a plethora of basketball topics. Subsequently, the veteran analyst A. Smith addressed the elephant in the room and asked about his ring-less journey. To be more specific, he asked PG if he ever felt that he would have a championship if not for an injury before the Kawhi Leonard Clippers era.
The 33-year-old star strongly confirmed it, saying, “Absolutely.” Following that, he went on to narrate his injury story after the 2013-14 season. The star had a breakout season in 2013-14 edition as he averaged 21.7 points for the first time and even reached Conference Finals with the Pacers. While he had hopes to clinch the title in the next season, he succumbed to a serious injury in the off-season.
He further added, “I was really looking forward to that summer to getting better… the most devastating part was just the life that was taken away from everybody.”

Furthermore, he reassured that he would have won the championship the next year, had he not been injured.
What happened to PG in 2014?
In 2014, Paul George suffered an open tibia-fibula fracture in his right leg during an exhibition match, reported Sports Illustrated. The report also reported the star had a successful surgery on his leg and was most likely to miss the following NBA season. The Team USA carried out an intra squad exhibition match during the offseason and unfortunately, George injured himself while attempting a lay up against James Harden.
