Just a couple of hours ago, the Four-time NBA champion LeBron James recently took to Instagram and shared a post on his story with his 159 million followers highlighting 81-year-old Ralph Lawler, known for being the Clippers announcer for over 4 decades, praising the player for dropping 23 points during a game against the team back in 2010. Lawler was quoted as saying “The best I’ve ever seen, folks. I’ve never seen anything like it. Not ever”.

It took 14 years for LeBron to respond, but respond he did. The NBA player wrote a caption alongside the story that read “Ralph Lawler is a (goat emoji). Would watch Clipper games mostly to hear him call the game”. LeBron also added a little humor towards the end by writing “Haggle or no Haggle. Haha”.

The Los Angeles Lakers and the Los Angeles Clippers have shared an on-court rivalry for quite some time now. Given that both the Western Conference teams play their home games in the Greater LA Area, their matchups have often been dubbed “Battle of L.A”, indirectly creating a competition about who the better team is. While these rivalry moments are a common theme, it is often heartwarming to see players on both the sides choose to send flowers to their opponents from time to time.

LeBron James’ “Haggle or no Haggle” comment was a reference to a throwback game during which time Ralph Lawler used to engage in commentary alongside former Spurs player Bruce Bowen. During one such moment, while engaging in a game of ‘Haggle or no Haggle’, Lawler called out LeBron for being “the best player in basketball history” by stating “I saw Bill Russell play, I saw George Mikan play, I saw Wilt Chamberlain play, I saw Oscar Robertson play. This guy is the best player I’ve ever seen, absolutely.”

Ralph Lawler definitely didn’t have to think long when placing the 39-year-old above all of those other players. When comparing LeBron against Michael Jordan, however, would the Clippers commentator have held the same opinion?

Given that the radio personality has had a broadcasting career since the 1960s, many would have assumed him to favour the player that dominated the sports world from the late 80s to the early 2000s. However, after taking to his official X account, the 84-year-old continued his praise of LeBron by stating “He does more to help his teams win than anyone who has ever played the game. And, it is Not even Close. Add the length of his career without a fall-off in his talent level and it is not even worth discussing”.
