The LA Lakers are in desperate need of a third star. Despite Anthony Davis and LeBron James being healthy for the majority of the season, the Lakers have been hovering around the play-in spots of the Western Conference standings. They are currently 10th in the West with a 17-17 record. LeBron James and Co. have been plagued by injuries most of the season, and their role players have not stepped up to support the two superstars.

There have been rumors about the Lakers eyeing Bulls guard Zach LaVine before the trade deadline. If that does not work out, hosts of the No Dunks Podcast urged LeBron’s side to trade for Blazers guard Malcolm Brogdon for a more attainable option.

There was a discussion about the Lakers season so far during the No Dunks Podcast. The panel deemed the Purple and Gold the biggest losers of the weekend because of their current status. The Lakers have lost 3 of their last 4 games and have struggled since winning the In-Season Tournament. One of the hosts, J.E. Skeets, put up another option for the Lakers to chase in case the Zach LaVine trade does not work out, “If they don’t go for Zach LaVine, could there be a more of a minor move like Malcolm Brogdon?”

Brogdon is a veteran point guard who can impact both ends of the floor. He is a solid 15-point scorer and might prove a great addition to the Lakers roster. Brogdon is currently playing for the Portland Trail Blazers, who are in the rebuilding process. They are highly likely to make a trade for Brogdon with the Lakers to acquire some future assets. Brogdon might be a great playmaker for the Lakers, who can take the scoring load off LeBron and AD’s shoulders.

The Lakers need a healthy roster to succeed

Apart from players not stepping up, the Lakers have been plagued by injuries throughout the season. They might not have had to look for a trade if Gabe Vincent was healthy. Unfortunately, he will be out for 6-8 weeks because of his knee injury. Vincent had a breakout year for the Miami Heat last season and helped them reach the NBA Finals. His absence has affected the Lakers a lot, as they are missing a solid playmaker and three-point shooter.

Rui Hachimura also got injured in the last game against the Pelicans. He left the court 8 minutes into the game with a calf strain. He is expected to miss some time due to injury. Other players like Cam Reddish, D’Angelo Russell, and Jarred Vanderbilt have also been in and out of the line-up due to multiple injuries. The Lakers need their roster fully healthy to get into a rhythm and find success. Unfortunately, they have not been able to do that so far.
