At such a young age, the Lakers‘ guard Austin Reaves has proved himself to be an excellent role player and he is exactly what the Lakers need right now; a young blood with an exceptional game IQ. Reaves is especially one Lebron can rely on, and that’s a bold statement, considering how difficult it is to impress the King. But Reaves has made it look like a walk in the park.

The young star signed a multi-million dollar deal with Rigorer, a Chinese shoe brand over the summer in June of this year. His debut shoes, the AR1’s, are set to be revealed this Friday. Ahead of the release, Reaves is in talks with the Chinese brand for a contract extension that could mean bigger things for the 25-year-old star.

Sources say that Reaves and his representatives have reportedly renegotiated an extension with Rigorer that will make Reaves a co-owner of the business. On the matter, Reaves said, “Probably like 20-something people in the NBA that, you know, have a signature shoe. So, honestly, I am blessed to, you know, play basketball for a living.”

Hold your horses as there’s more to that deal; through the contract, sources say that Reaves is set to earn a mouth-watering seven figures annually. Although the details of that number have not been disclosed yet, it includes yearly equity grants that will eventually increase Reaves’ stake in the Rigorer business as a whole.

Reaves declined the Pistons

Life could’ve taken a completely different turn for Austin Reaves in 2021 when he was selected as the 42nd overall pick by the Pistons in the 2021 NBA Draft. He declined the offer and instead signed a contract with the Lakers in August of the same year, and made his NBA debut in October. In his rookie year, he averaged 7.3 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 1.8 assists.

This season, Reaves has played all 21 games the Lakers have played so far. Although he was handed the bench role in the later part of the season, there seemed to be nothing stopping the young player from clenching his points. At this point in the season, Reaves has garnered averages of 13.7 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 4.7 assists.
