The Mavs took on the Jazz in their first game of the new year. And they were back to their full roster, as Kyrie Irving returned to the floor. Unfortunately, the team suffered a blowout 127-90 loss. Both Luka Doncic and Kyrie had an underwhelming game dropping 19 and 14 points, respectively.
But Uncle Drew‘s return could be a great moral booster. And Irving’s recent statement about his recovery added an extra character to the star, as he called it a humbling experience. Irving said, “I didn’t want to come in and step on someone’s toes in my first game… Just worked through the mental side of things being away from the game.” He also reflected on the impact the injury left on him.
He added, “This is my first in my career to have this type of injury. It was unique. I wasn’t sure how long I was gonna be out.” Moreover, the All-Star used the word “humbling,” while describing the process of overcoming the injury.

Irving ran up the lane, attempting a layup, forcing a foul call on the defender, but he came crashing down off balance. Unfortunately, his Mavs’ teammate Dwight Powell went for the rebound even after the whistle and ended up landing on Kyrie’s foot, leaving him in immense pain.
Following that, Irving dropped two free throws and clocked out of the game. Later, the scans revealed that he sustained right heel contusion.
