The New York Knicks‘ last game against the Cleveland Cavaliers saw their floor general, Jalen Brunson, sidelined for the remainder of the game with a left knee contusion. Not even a full minute had passed before Brunson had to be helped back to the locker room. He going for a jump shot when suddenly, he clutched at his knee and landed awkwardly.

The NBA All-Star was still holding his knee in obvious pain before he could walk back. Coach Thibodeau had mentioned that there wouldn’t be a timetable for Brunson’s return. But the latest updates from NBA Insider Ian Begley have the Knicks fans excited.

Joining SNY’s Inside Out, Ian Begley said, “The belief is that he has avoided significant injury … [The Knicks] should have Jalen Brunson, if not Tuesday night, then sometime later this week.”

As Begley pointed out, the initial and major worry was whether there was any “structural damage”. Given that the team has listed their star guard as QUESTIONABLE vs the Hawks, it gives reason to believe that Brunson and New York have indeed dodged a bullet. Given that many of their key pieces are on the injury report, losing Jalen Brunson too would have been the biggest blow.

But that’s not all. The NBA Insider has another piece of good news.

The Knicks’ star forward and swingman are on track to return to the floor

Julius Randle and OG Anunoby, two key players who have been out since January 27th, seem to making good progress in their return to the floor. As per sources and reports, it seems that Randle would most likely see a faster return. He has been responding extremely well to workouts as opposed to Anunoby.

The Indiana product played 14 games for the Knicks before he had to undergo surgery for a loose bone fragment in his right elbow. Although he started shooting, Begley said that he wasn’t cleared for contact. He also mentioned how he wasn’t doing everything Randle was doing. So, barring any setbacks, Julius can be expected later or middle of March.

Anunoby is also expected to return before the month ends; of course, given there won’t be any blocks in the progress they are making. But both players are on track to return towards the end of the month. Now all that is left to see is whether they can get their rhythm back by the playoffs.
