In just 15 games, 21-year-old rookie Chet Holmgren has shown how valuable he is for the Oklahoma City Thunder. He has helped the Thunder grab the number 2 spot in the Western Conference rankings with an 11-4 record. In context, OKC finished as the 10th seed last season and missed the playoffs. After suffering a Lisfranc injury in pre-season last year, Holmgren was deemed unavailable for the entire season, thus making 2023-2024 his rookie season.

Not only is he having an early impact on the floor, but he is starting to affect lives off it as well. Chet Holmgren recently joined forces with NBA 2K to bring early Thanksgiving joy to the OKC community.

Chet is bringing joy to the OKC fanbase on and off the court. He has performed tremendously in his rookie season so far. he averages 17.1 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 2.3 blocks, and is among the leaders in multiple categories. He is close behind San Antonio Spurs rookie Victory Wembanyama in the Rookie of the Year race. However, Wemby?s performance is not translating to wins, and the Spurs are currently the worst team in the Western Conference. That will play a big role in the ROTY award voting at the end of the season.

The OKC Thunder have a bright future

The OKC Thunder have struggled to find significant success since Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook left the team. They have been trying to rebuild their roster and create a team that can make them Championship contenders again. It looks like OKC?s patience is finally starting to pay off, as they have one of the best young teams in the NBA right now. They are being led by 25-year-old guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who made the First Team All-NBA for the first time last season. Shai is playing at an MVP level this season, averaging 30.4 points and 2.4 steals.
