It is time for them to pass the torch and for the next generation of players to take the league forward.

Part of carrying the torch is to take the game to the next level and for players like Jaylen Brown, the time is now. He is definitely one of the top players of this generation and he is arguably one of the, if not the best finisher in the Celtics currently. In fact, the 2X NBA All-Star took Boston to the finals last season. Sitting down with Andre Iguodala and Evan Turner in their podcast Point Forward, Jaylen Brown shares his thoughts on Bron and Steph passing the torch to the next generation of NBA players.

Players should value themselves and what they represent

For Jaylen, the responsibility of holding the torch means improving how athletes in the NBA are perceived and making the next generation value themselves as players, especially when stepping into the business. “A lot of times we are, you know, isolated, you know. We got certain guys that are more monetizable than others but even looked at as a collective, like what does it mean for an athlete during his career, during his tenure from start to finish,” he says.

According to him, after retiring, a lot of the players?”fall off a cliff, right? You see a lot of them lose predominant amount of their wealth in the first 10 or so years.” So the goal is to make sure that they continue to have a revenue system even after they bid adieu to the game. Jaylen stresses the fact that what it means to be an athlete is also understanding and respecting their own values, without getting lost in the maze of fame and money. The athletes need to collectively unify and focus on monetizing their own representation.
