Despite early projections and later inconsistencies, Davis has proven to be an important contributor to the team’s success with LeBron James. He has played a key role for the Purple and Gold since his arrival in Southern California. The Lakers’ investment in teaming Davis with LeBron James paid off quickly. However, Davis has yet to completely embrace his expected role as the team’s alpha dog.

On Friday, August 4th, Anthony Davis will become extension-eligible. However, he has an early termination option (ETO) for the final year of his deal. It is expected to occur during the 2024-25 season. As the Lakers prepare for the upcoming NBA season, acquiring Davis on a long-term basis has emerged as a primary priority.

Meanwhile, an NBA analyst dived into AD’s potential contract details during a recent episode of ‘NBA Today’.

Davis will be eligible for a three-year, $169 million extension beginning this Friday, according to NBA insider Bobby Marks. This enticing offer would bind him to the team until the 2025-26 season. Davis currently has two years left on his current contract.

However, he must decide whether to sign the contract or wait and explore other options. The clock is ticking, with his decision deadline set on October 23rd.

Bobby Marks said, “If he decided to wait, he can sign up until October 23rd. That Jalen Brown number would be staring at him, potentially five years $304 million.” On the other hand, declining the early termination option might result in a four-year $214 million contract.

Davis, a pillar of his team’s success, is now at a crossroads. His decision will undoubtedly have far-reaching consequences for his career and Los Angeles Lakers.

Jaylen Brown’s contract could hamper future trades

The Boston Celtics have secured Jaylen Brown’s future with a contract extension for an astounding $304 million over five years. However, the deal’s excitement is tempered by concerns about its potential repercussions under the NBA’s new collective bargaining agreement (CBA). The CBA’s two-tier luxury tax system, designed to curb lavish spending, now poses a barrier to the Celtics’ hopes of creating a championship-winning group.

The league’s financial environment has evolved. And the Celtics may struggle to negotiate the convoluted system of contract constraints and luxury tax standards. With the CBA’s sanctions for high-spending teams, the Celtics may face an uphill struggle in acquiring the complementary talent that championship contention necessitates. Furthermore, due to the massive contract, trading Brown down the road could be difficult. It could restrict the team’s flexibility when considering future roster alterations. However, only time will tell how things turn out for the team.
