Fans witnessed a day full of NBA games on Martin Luther King Day. The LA Clippers also suited up on Monday to face the Minnesota Timberwolves in a thrilling matchup. Unfortunately, James Harden and Co. could not defeat the top-seeded team in the Western Conference and lost the game 109-105.
However, that did not stop James Harden and the Clipper nation from paying tribute to Martin Luther King with his special message.
James Harden and Co.’s message on MLK Day

The LA Clippers shared a picture of James Harden and Co. warming up before the game on MLK Day. The picture showed the former MVP and the Clippers squad wearing a T-shirt with a special message by Martin Luther King. “The time is always right to do what is right.” read the back of the t-shirt. The front of the T-shirt said, “Honor King.” The quote printed on the Clippers’ warm-up shirts was an excerpt from Martin Luther King’s speech “The Other America” from 1967. He delivered the historic speech in the Memorial Auditorium at Stanford University just one year before his assassination.

The NBA has been conducting games on MLK Day every year since 1986. Martin Luther King was a chief spokesperson against racial discrimination and inequality during the Civil Rights Movement. A total of 378 NBA games have been played on MLK day since its inception, including the 11 games played this season.
The NBA World has also witnessed some iconic performances on this historic day.

Historic NBA Performances on MLK Day
With a tradition that has been going on in the NBA for over three decades, fans have witnessed some historic performances on MLK Day. Damian Lillard has had the highest-scoring game in MLK Day history. The Milwaukee Bucks guard put up a 61-point performance against the Warriors in 2020 when he was still playing for the Portland Trail Blazers. Dame shot lights out during that game and drilled 11 three-pointers. He is the only player in history to score 60+ points on MLK Day. Other players with incredible scoring performances on MLK Day include Kemba Walker (52), Jayson Tatum (51), and Gilbert Arenas (51).

Apart from the individual performances, several teams have also created history on MLK Day. The New York Knicks have played the most games (37) on this historic day. The LA Lakers are close behind with 33 games. Both teams will add to their tally tonight. But the Golden State Warriors are the team that has come out with the most wins. They have won 21 of the 30 games they have played on MLK Day. Unfortunately, they added a loss to their column tonight. MLK Day has been a great day for NBA fans, and they hope to witness more historic games in the future.
