It’s one thing looking after a naughty toddler but having to take care of a 6’6, 230-pound grown man is next-level exhaustion. Steve Kerr couldn’t be more in agreement. While teammates and the Warriors management have all expressed their desire to help Draymond Green in whatever way they can, it’s obvious that his antics have taken a toll on all.

This time, Kerr didn’t bother hiding them. Dray’s contributions to upholding the dynasty that the Warriors are, can’t be dismissed. Yet, the same guy also ended up being the cornerstone for their latest downhill graph.

Coach Kerr doesn’t bother trying to rephrase or take a diplomatic stance this time around. “Frankly it’s tiring, it’s exhausting for our team to have to go through all this… Part of the exhaustion is just worrying about him and making sure he’s okay. You throw all that together, it’s a lot for a team to have to handle.”

The evident struggles of the Dubs in itself are a major point of worry. Add Green to that list and it’s Chernobyl-like. Not knowing if and when Dray is going to be violent is not a burden they can carry just about now. After his latest altercation against Jusuf Nurkić, the league decided that they had to move to the next level.

And that was the indefinite suspension. Until and unless Dray meets certain conditions, the league and his team have stipulated, he cannot join the Warriors on the floor. While the meeting on Wednesday was more about the kind of help they can offer for his betterment, the GSW GM, Dunleavy Jr. had taken a plea deal.

He said that they wouldn’t be able to promise such an incident(s) would not occur in the future. Let’s take a look at his suspensions in order and what it cost the team.

The Green epoch

‘DrayMagic’ started his suspension record on a fine NBA Finals night. The year was 2016, and the Warriors were facing the LeBron James-led Cleveland Cavaliers. The Dub Nation believes to this day that had it not been for Green’s suspension following a flagrant 1 foul (contact with James’ groin area for stepping over him), the Golden State would have gotten the championship.

The next was the 2018-19 season, where Dray’s issues with Kevin Durant took on a heated turn during a regular season game. This led to a one-game suspension without pay. Both of them later admitted it to be one of the major reasons for KD to leave the Warriors. Fast forward to 2022-23 and we can see Green in the middle of another teammate squabble.

Only this time, it was a punch to the face of Jordan Poole. Though this did not get him a suspension, Draymond still paid for the punch with hard cash. The same season also saw him landing his 16th technical foul, which meant he would be automatically suspended for one game without pay. That game was against the Hawks on March 17th, which the GSW lost.

And then, of course, the most recent headlock of Rudy Gobert which resulted in a five-game suspension and fine. At least the Warriors benefited from that fine. But at a bigger price – the loss of a key player. The same can be said of the indefinite suspension.
