This season, the San Antonio Spurs have been a team to watch. Much of their popularity is, however, linked to their tendency for nail-biting contests. In these high-pressure circumstances, Victor Wembanyama has repeatedly delivered clutch plays. In fact, three of the Spurs’ first four games came down to the wire, creating the ideal setting for Victor’s spectacular heroics.

Wembanyama, in just 5 matches, has joined the elite list of clutch players. In the list of most clutch time points this season, he ranks third falling short of just 2 points from LeBron James and 1 point from Luka Doncic. The clutch statistics of Victor Wembanyama speak loudly about his effect on the Spurs. However, it’s not only his scoring ability, he also ranks third in clutch rebounds and first in clutch blocks. Wembanyama’s important plays have been essential in the Spurs’ strong start to the season.

Victor Wembanyama’s desire extends well beyond desperate conditions. He aspires for perfection throughout the game, attempting to emulate the all-around consistency of legends such as Kevin Durant. He knows the significance of starting games strong and performing at a high level from tip-off to the final whistle. And his performances show how hungry he is to win a championship for his franchise. However, what other records has Wembanyama recorded?

Wembanyama’s current records in his NBA tenure

Victor Wembanyama, the No. 1 overall choice in the 2023 NBA draft, has had a record-breaking rookie season. He has made a lasting impression on the NBA and the San Antonio Spurs club. Wembanyama made history by being the first adolescent in San Antonio Spurs history to score 20 points in a half against the Phoenix Suns. His 20-point, five-rebound, and two-assist first-half outburst propelled the Spurs to a 75-55 halftime advantage. Wembanyama’s scoring prowess continued, with 100 points and 10 blocks in his first five NBA games. Shaquille O’Neal, who played for the Orlando Magic then, was the last player to accomplish this extraordinary achievement.

In addition, the rookie phenom became only the second rookie in San Antonio Spurs history to score 100 points or more in his first five games, joining only NBA great David Robinson during the 1989-90 season. Wembanyama further cemented his status among the NBA’s best by putting up 38 points, 10 rebounds, two assists, and two blocks in a single game. This accomplishment put him in an elite group with LeBron James and Kevin Durant.  He became the third teenager to score 35 points, grab 10 rebounds, and block two shots in a game. His ability to thrive under stress, both offensively and defensively, distinguishes him and makes him a legitimate contender for the NBA’s Clutch Player Award. Fans can expect to see the progression of this young French phenomenon as he keeps creating his place among the NBA’s greats as the season progresses.
