Anthony Davis has been playing some of his best basketball recently. The Lakers superstar went off for 41 points and 20 rebounds in the last game to lead the Lakers to the first-ever NBA Cup. He continued his dominant form tonight and scored a game-high 37 points and 11 rebounds. Although LeBron James and Co. lost the game by 2 points, AD’s performance has given Laker Nation immense hope.

However, AD’s injury-prone nature might have begun to haunt him again. Lakers head coach Darvin Ham gave a concerning update regarding AD, which might be the result of his high usage rate this season.

Lakers Power Forward Anthony Davis has played the 7th most total minutes of any player this season. If we include his in-season tournament final outing, he would be Number 1 in the league. That is some amazing endurance, as per Davis’ standards, who is infamous for being injury-prone. AD has been dominant this season, averaging 22.7 points, 12.7 rebounds, and 2.7 blocks. He has also taken some scoring load off LeBron’s shoulders. However, AD’s high usage rate might have taken a toll on his body. Davis has been dealing with some soreness in his hip area. Lakers head coach Darvin Ham revealed why AD continues to play at a high usage despite a lingering injury, “He wants to be there and be available.”

Darvin Ham playing Anthony Davis excessive minutes might come back to bite him later in the season. Davis revealed after the game that he tweaked his hip again while playing, “Each and every game, take it a day at a time, and then we’ll make decisions from there.” AD has a history of being injury-prone, and it will be a big blow for the Lakers if he misses time in the coming months.

Can Anthony Davis continue his incredible form?

Anthony Davis has elevated his game to another level this season. After a slow start to the season, he has become the first scoring option for the Lakers. Darvin Ham revealed in an interview last week that AD’s incredible form is a result of the Lakers running more set plays and not giving in to the chaos. Davis looks very comfortable in the new setting, and he is on par with some of the best players in the league.

It will be interesting to see if AD can stay healthy and continue his dominant form. After leading the Lakers to a Championship in 2020, AD played a total of 76 games in the following two seasons due to injury. He did better last season and played 56 games. AD has already played 22 games this season, and this is the most available he has been since the 2019-20 season.
