From the NBA All-Star and Celebrity Games to thrilling events planned for children, one of the NBA’s most anticipated events is right around the corner. That’s right, the 16th of February will mark the start of the NBA All-Star Weekend, which will conclude on the 18th. With an array of exciting games and activities lined up, fans and visitors alike will get to enjoy basketball in Indianapolis during this special weekend! However, just before the date rolls around, the Mayor of Indianapolis is tying up loose ends to alleviate the experience of the thousands of visitors.
For the longest time, the city has been battling with the woes of an increasing number of potholes on the roads. This could cause inconvenience and other problems for the drivers. In light of this issue, Mayor Joe Hogsett together with the Department of Public Works (DPW), the American Federation of State, the Indianapolis City-County Council, AFSCME Local 723, and other organizations have teamed up to fix the issue by putting together a plan which was announced on the 8th.

The aim is to fill the potholes using hot mix asphalt as opposed to the previously used cold mix asphalt. The former is said to be more resilient and makes for better pothole repairs. The labor-intensive process will require up to 170 workers to put in 10-hour shifts to fix the roads just in time for the NBA All-Star Weekend. “Our dedicated AFCME Indy DPW crews will be putting in extra hours while the weather cooperates to ensure a smoother and safer surface on local roads across the county,” the Mayor said about the effort.
With thousands of visitors anticipated to flood the city for the special NBA event, the DPW workers commenced the repairing work on the 8th of February and are expected to finish up before the 16th. This is the second time that Indianapolis is hosting the NBA All-Star Game, and the city is going above and beyond to ensure that everyone has a great time. The first time the city hosted the game was in 1985. Here are some special dates and events to look out for this year!
