The Warriors roster is set for the next season. They did away with Jordan Poole and instead opted for Chris Paul. Apart from that, Draymond Green signed a 4-year, $100 million deal. Why not! He is their defensive anchor, after all. 2022 championship hero Andrew Wiggins will enter the second season of his 4-year $109 million extension. Meanwhile, Stephen Curry is set to sizzle for the second year in his four-year $221 million mega deal.

Therefore, much of the core is set to play for the upcoming window. Cutting Poole loose and retaining Green showcase their trust in the core. Another integral part of the core has a big decision to make.

With Stephen Curry as the hot scorer, Draymond Green as the all-purpose defender, and Wiggins as a two-way phenom, the team gets a lot of quality production. Add Klay Thompson to the mix, and things cook even more. Thompson, Curry, and Green have won four championships together. The Splash Brothers Curry and Thompson have lit up hundreds of defenses together. The off-the-ball player has the ability to find open spots and always has a reputation for getting hot in the field. In the pace and space era, Thompson can bury jumpers both in fast-break and half-court situations. He will enter the last year of his five-year $189 million contract. This season, he is set to receive $43 million. His immense value can fetch him around $50 million in the current market.

With the way contracts are shaping up, how will the Warriors keep him around? Wouldn’t he also ask for a massive extension and reap the fruits of the current market? It will be interesting to see how the Warriors accommodate him. What if they move him? Wouldn’t a trade be beneficial to both parties?

The challenge of cap space

Suppose the Warriors decided to trade Thompson before the season to avoid letting him walk for nothing in exchange. For the Guard, it will create $4,387,910 more, as he will get a trade bonus. This scenario looks highly unlikely. Maybe the Dubs can find a financial space for the incredible spot-up shooter on their roster.

In that case, the luxury tax bill, which is around $188 million currently, can just shoot up beyond $250 million or so. The cost of bringing in the incredible off-the-ball player can be high, but the Warriors can be committed to that. How will the Warriors find a mega extension for him?
