While Team Canada remain the most dominant side in the tournament, France faced a humiliating fate. Karl-Anthony Towns and his team however have only added to this list of surprises, topping their group. Their head coach Che Garcia shared the inside view of this glorious team following their back-to-back wins in the tournament.

Karl-Anthony Towns and Team Dominican Republic have caused havoc in Group A, topping the table. After registering two wins, they are just one win away from storming into the quarter-finals undefeated. This has definitely raised their hopes for a medal in the tournament. Naturally, their performance overwhelmed their head coach, Che Garcia with joy.

Garcia expressed his pride and excitement in a press conference after the team handed a 87-82 defeat to Team Italy. He also shared some insights into how the players have troubled him before the start of the tournament.

I want to kill this guy! Every practice, you know, what I mean?” he said. He went on to add, “But I’m happy because I know when we want to play, they are like my sons, you know? They follow instructions, they are focused, you know. They made me suffer all week but when we play, they make me happy. For that, I love my players.

Whatever Team Dominican Republic did before the tournament began, it evidently did not please their head coach. However, their performance so far has not just impressed him but the rest of the basketball world. The team’s “none at all” losing streak needs to be maintained come knockouts time as well. Towns put up a James Harden-esque performance in Team Dominican Republic’s first outing. He scored a whopping 26 points in the game, 15 of them, coming from the charity strike. The 7-foot center also grabbed 10 rebounds in the process. He followed it up with another dominant display against Team Italy, going off for yet another double-double. He currently ranks 1st in total points scored in the tournament, accumulating 50 points.

Towns will need to maintain this consistency for Team Dominican Republic to stand a chance at bagging a medal in the tournament.
