“I Want to Be a Part of That”: Days After Charles Barkley’s Induction Into Suns Royalty, Kevin Durant Reveals Aspirations to Join the Former MVP

The Phoenix Suns have seen some of the biggest icons of the game for their franchise. From Shaquille O’Neal to Steve Nash to Charles Barkley, they have numerous memorable moments in the desert. Two-time NBA champion Kevin Durant joined the long list of NBA stars to play for the Suns earlier this year. This started an exciting time for the team as they chased the NBA title.

During their season opener, the organization paid a special tribute to Barkley and Nash. Following the next game, KD spoke about the honor and also made a huge revelation.

Kevin Durant might have dropped a huge hint about his future

The 2014 MVP Kevin Durant has been around the league. The 13-time NBA All-Star has played for the Oklahoma City Thunder, Golden State Warriors, and the Brooklyn Nets, and now, the Phoenix Suns.

During a recent press conference, KD might have dropped a huge hint about his future with the Suns. When talking about the Ring of Honor celebration, which honored Barkley and Steve Nash, Durant talked about his aspirations to be a part of the elite list.

“Playing for the Suns, I want to be a part of that”, said Durant during a press conference after the game against the Utah Jazz. He has spent half a season with the Suns so far and it has been underwhelming. 

With a new team and a new season, KD can take them all the way. If he achieves that, it will be the first NBA title in the franchise’s history and this amazing feat will certainly confirm his status in the Ring of Honor.

What did Charles Barkley say about his honor?

Charles Barkley was one of the first real NBA superstars to come out of the Phoenix Suns. He was brought in from the Philadelphia 76ers, the team that drafted him, with big hopes of winning a championship.

Although he won everything possible in basketball, barring a ring, his time with the Suns was very fruitful. Following the halftime Ring of Honor coronation for The Round Mound of Rebound, he had a lot to say.

“I just want to say thank you to Mat [Ishbia] and the entire Phoenix Suns organization. You guys are the best… I’m never leaving Arizona until I’m dead”, said the 1993 MVP.

The Hall of Famer spent 4 seasons in the desert. He made the NBA Finals in 1993, but the Chicago Bulls led by the legendary Michael Jordan were too much to handle. Barkley left the Suns averaging 23.4 points, 11.5 rebounds and 4.4 assists.
