The Houston Rockets (12-9) are currently on a roll, winning their fourth back-to-back game against the Grizzlies last night. Tari Eason was the highest scorer for the Rockets, contributing 25 points and 14 rebounds. However, Dillon Brooks stole the show with his peculiar hairdo.

The spotlight was on him as he showed up at the game with uniquely braided hair that spelled into an ‘R’, showing the logo of the Rockets. But it’s not the first time we have seen this design. Brooks himself tells us the inspiration behind this unique hairstyle, and it was none other than former NBA star and Slam Dunk Champion (2007) Gerald Green.

It was two simple braids that ran down each side of Brooks’ head but what was in the middle grabbed everyone’s attention. When asked about the backstory of this design, he says, “When I was in my rookie year or sophomore year when we played Houston, I seen, you know, Gerald (Green) get the R on his head one time.” When one looks at the hair, it looks like a very difficult feat to pull off. So how did Brooks manage to do it?

Fortunately, the story doesn’t end there as Brooks further adds that it was Gerald who introduced him to the lady that made it happen. “He gave me the contact of, you know, the braider he be using and I been using her ever since I got out here and you know, I just wanted to try it out and you know, she’s amazing,” the 27-year-old star says. Kudos to the lady with the magic hands!

Gerald’s homage to his home team

Gerald was nearing the twilight years of his career and he had just signed a contract with the Rockets in December 2017. He was over the moon playing for his hometown team and couldn’t help showing his love to the team by having the logo braided on his head, even taking to Instagram to flaunt it. Tagging the stylist, he wrote “Y’all know I had too!” in the caption.

This wasn’t the first time Gerald did something like this. In fact, he pulled a similar stunt when he was playing for the Celtics, braiding a shamrock design, the team logo on his head. He is known for his unique and not-so-easy-to-pull-off hairdos, thanks to his very talented stylist.
