The Los Angeles Lakers bullied the Indiana Pacers in Las Vegas to clinch the first-ever NBA Cup. LeBron James won the Most Valuable Player award for the tournament, further enriching his expansive trophy case. However, what stole the spotlight was Anthony Davis‘ remarkable performance. AD, who had been at the center of scrutiny by the entire league for his substandard performance since the start of the season, proved his mettle when it counted. His astonishing 41-point outburst propelled the Lakers to a 123-109 victory in the inaugural in-season tournament finals. In addition to his barrage of baskets, he also contributed 20 rebounds, 5 assists, and 4 blocks.
However, despite his efforts to lead the team to victory, he is still on the receiving end of criticism. This time, however, from his former teammate.
Dwight Howard takes a subtle jab at Anthony Davis

Dwight Howard was a key piece in the Lakers’ lineup during their historic bubble championship run in 2020. However, he was traded soon after, only to return once again. But this time, things were different. He was given fewer minutes on the hardwood, but he was expected to retain his championship form.
In an interview with comedian Marco last year, DH12 exposed the Lakers’ hypocrisy in expecting maximum results in the minimum number of minutes. He argued, “Do you expect somebody to average 15 rebounds if they playing 2 minutes a quarter?” When asked the reason behind him playing fewer minutes, he stated, “They paid Anthony Davis all that money to play at that position,” signalling that he was getting paid less and seeing fewer minutes because of AD.

The 8-time All-Star recently dug up the old clip from the interview to post it on his Instagram. Interestingly, the video was posted hours after AD erupted 41 points in the in-season tournament finals. He captioned the video, “Aye @funnymarco we said we was going to finish this debate later on my show 😂 so let’s do lot @d12abovetherim.” Whether it is a jab at AD or not will only be clear when Howard releases the episode on his new podcast, D12 Above the Rim.
Dwight Howard is eyeing an NBA return
After the Lakers refused to extend Dwight’s contract, he found a new home in the T1 league in Taiwan, joining the Taoyuan Leopards. Earlier in the offseason, there were rumblings that he would make a comeback with the Golden State Warriors. However, the talks failed to materialize. But it appears that the 38-year-old is ready to return to the league once again. On his birthday, he took to X (formerly Twitter) to confirm that he is not hanging up his boots unless he has participated in an in-season tournament game.
