The 2023-24 season will mark LeBron James’ 21st season as an NBA professional. He came into the league with unmatched hype, as the Sports Illustrated magazine dubbed him the “Chosen One” back in 2003. It’s fair to say that LeBron has not only matched those expectations, but surpassed them, if that is even possible. Over the course of his illustrious 20-season NBA career, LeBron James has faced many opponents who attempted to agitate him. However, the end result has been remarkably consistent: LeBron imposing himself over the opposing team.

Dillon Brooks gained worldwide notoriety last season for “Poking the Bear (LeBron)”. He has continued his antics this season, as he gears up to face LeBron again later tonight.

The Los Angeles Lakers season is off to a shaky start. The most successful franchise of the NBA has lost four games and occupied the 10th spot in the Western Conference finals with seven games played. They have now lost in their last two games. Their loss to the Heat could be hard to accept, given that the Lakers narrowly lost by a single point with numerous unfavorable calls going against them.

They face the Rockets in their next match-up at the Toyota Center later tonight. The game has caught the attention of fans due to the revival of LeBron and Dillon Brooks’ beef. Before the game, Brooks claimed that he would “Lock up” LeBron during their match-up. But, Brooks’ comments did not impress NFL legend Richard Sherman. He said, “Some people never learn their lessons. It seems like he is a glutton for punishment at this point”. He added further, “I am sure it doesn’t affect LeBron James because either way because it is a pebble to a mountain at this point in time in their respective careers.”

Dillon “the Villain” Brooks

Dillon Brooks embarked on his NBA career in 2017 when the Houston Rockets selected him in the second round of the draft. However, he was soon traded to the Memphis Grizzlies. At Memphis he garnered a reputation for agitating and pestering opposing team’s star players. His antics have overshadowed his excellent defensive talents over the course of his NBA career.

In last season’s playoffs, the Grizzlies met the Lakers in the first round. From the very start, Brooks began to pester LeBron. Despite labeling him as old and past his prime, the provocations only served to inspire LeBron, as the Lakers won the series. Brooks was ridiculed for his behavior and the Grizzlies cut ties with him once the season got over. Now with the Houston Rockets, Brooks looks to embrace the “Villain” persona and help the Rockets secure their first playoff spot since 2020.
