Michael Jordan’s modern basketball messiah image is apparently blurring for the Gen Z. Some recent encounters have shown a serious disregard to the legend’s greatness. During the 2023 NBA Draft week itself, rookies chose LeBron James over MJ. Following that landslide margin defeat, a starlet of Jordan franchise disrespected the 6x NBA Champion by openly revealing his trash talk story.
The younger basketball generation seemed to have missed a beat with Jordan’s legacy as the Chicago Bulls legend mostly lived a low-key public life after retirement. This is where greenhorns influenced by some contemporary court choices are effortlessly overlooking the greatness.

After Victor Wembanyama, the 20-year-old Brandon Miller has emerged as one of the most talked about prospects in the 2023 Draft class. Fittingly, Michael Jordan’s Charlotte Hornets chose Miller as overall #2 pick in the draft. However, the star believed that trash talk before the draft week fetched him the spot in the Hornets’ roster.
In the recent podcast episode of Podcast P with Paul George, Brandon Miller opened up about various aspects of his career, leading up to his rookie year. Especially the infamous trash talk story. One of the hosts asked Miller if he was a trash talker and he responded with an one line, “if you start with me I’ma finish it.” The host followed it up with Miller’s infamous trash talk to MJ during the pre-draft workout. The rookie immediately said, “He started it.”
Furthermore, Miller responded whether the trash talk fetched him the #2 spot in the draft. He added, “I think [trash talk] kind of showed another side of me…I don’t think he thought I was gonna say anything to him just because you know he is Michael Jordan.”
However, the trash talk led the legend to miss a beat himself as Miller said, “But you know, I did see him airball that free throw.”
